Jacob Frenkel Partner at Shulman Rogers   When the international media have needed an expert to explain the Bernard Madoff fraud, investigation and issues, they call Jacob Frenkel, a partner at Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy & Ecker, P.A.  Since the announcement of the criminal charges in mid-December, Mr. Frenkel has appeared on live television interviews for CNBC Squawk Box (four times), CNBC Squawk on the Street, CNBC's CNBC Reports, Newshour with Jim Lehrer, multiple Bloomberg programs, BBC World Business and others.  He also has appeared on NBC Nightly News (with the stories replayed on the Today Show and McLaughlin Group), CBS Evening News, PBS Nightly Business Report, CTV (Canada) National News, CTV Newsnet and Business News Network.   This is in addition to live radio commentary for several BBC stations and Bloomberg and quotes in stories published by the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, all major wire services (Associated Press, Agence Press France, Bloomberg and Reuters) and financial services industry publications.

You may find informative the following interview on Bloomberg Television's Money and Politics from the evening of December 30th.  In this interview, Mr. Frenkel answers varied questions about the investigation:

Mr. Frenkel also has been making presentations covering such issues as how it happened, the status of the investigation, understanding the legal issues, the SEC's role, who has exposure and its nature, potential defendants in the criminal and civil cases, possible regulatory changes, lessons learned and proactive steps for participants in the investment world.

The CNBC interviews have been much more single-issue focused than the Bloomberg piece referenced above.  To view the CNBC interviews, they are as follows:

In the same line of thoughts, Stanford Financial and the flamboyant Allen Stanford have highlighted the securities litigation expertise of U.S. Lawrope member Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy and Ecker, P.A. Partner, Jacob Frenkel, has provided expert commentary already for BBC World (television) News, CBS Evening News, Bloomberg Television, the Houston Chronicle (the U.S. daily newspaper on the front line) and others. Mr. Frenkel views the Stanford matter as very different than Madoff, which is recognized as a Ponzi scheme. Mr. Frenkel has characterized the Stanford matter as more of a typical securities fraud, but of an unprecedented dollar amount.  He has raised particular issues that distinguish the U.S. investors from those in Central and South America and in Europe. And, in his network television interview, he declared that, now that Mr. Stanford has been found, the SEC's responsibility for investor protection may mean that the asset freeze must be removed, at least for certain investments at this time.  Mr. Frenkel just returned from Toronto where he spoke to an industry seminar of investment advisers and regulators and to a major securities law conference about measures that investment professionals and advisers can take to protect themselves and lessons from these significant investigations.

And, from the February 19, 2009 issue of the publication Corporate Crime Reporter, in an article titled "Corporate Crime Defense Bar in Unison: More Prosecutions Are on the Way," "In response to a major financial crisis, the public and our elected officials are demanding accountability," said Jacob Frenkel of Shulman, Rogers in Rockville, Maryland. "That means increased enforcement.  Particularly in the financial services sector, enforcement will appear similar to the running of the bulls in Pamplona."
