 | | Lawrope member Shulman Rogers Gandal Pordy & Ecker (SRGPE) is a founding platinum sponsor of the Rockville Innovation Center (RIC), a business incubator targeted at domestic technology start-ups as well as more established international technology companies seeking to establish a presence in the United States. Incubators like the RIC help fledgling companies grow by providing space and a broad range of support less expensively than these businesses can procure on their own. The goal of the RIC is to facilitate growth and success of young local companies as well as more established international companies locating in Montgomery County thereby stimulating job creation and benefiting the local economy.
Located in the city of Rockville, a short distance from Washington, D.C., the RIC opened in 2007 and currently hosts 25 companies, many of which have come from outside the U.S. Capitalizing on Rockville's strengths in the life sciences, and its international character, the RIC particularly seeks companies with a healthcare/medical/bioinformatics focus and international technology companies that are seeking to set up their first offices in the United States.
The RIC is the newest in Montgomery County's Innovation Center Network which boasts a proven track record for success, having graduated more than 30 companies. The state-of-the-art facility provides space and support for start-up technology companies, as well as programs that teach business skills and offers support with licensing, intellectual property, financing, and other key issues. Companies generally spend two to four years in Montgomery County incubators before graduating and moving to local commercial office space.
The RIC is located along the thriving I-270 Technology Corridor and in the heart of the new $350 million Rockville Town Center project. Its proximity to federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), as well as many local amenities, make it attractive to prospective tenants. Companies must submit an application and business plan in order to be considered for admission to the RIC.
